The product description seems to describe only the Wi-Fi Access Point mode (Ethernet to new Wifi), but it actually supports running as a Wi-Fi extender as well, which appears to be its default mode.
Great extra Wi-Fi access point supporting both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks.
I have wired networking throughout the house, but for some devices such as tablets/phones that is of no use. Plus, the Wi-Fi signal from the router in the office lose some signal strength through the walls before it reaches the bedroom at the other end.
Thats where this device comes in. I wanted to set it up as an extra Wi-Fi access point there, directly connected to the wired network.
That is also where I messed up at first.
Without reading all the instructions, I happily plugged it in, AND also connected the included ethernet cable. DON'T connect the ethernet cable, until AFTER you have configured this unit.
At first, I could not connect to its Wi-Fi connected setup. It simply could not be found.
Then I noticed Q3 in the FAQ section at the bottom of the installation poster. Specifically mentioning, that if you are planning to set up an Access Point, do NOT connect the ethernet cable until afterwards.
So, don't make my mistake.
Unplugged it from power, unplugged the ethernet, and started over.
When it came up, everything worked. I connected my tablet to its wifi, and to the "setupwifi.net" setup page.
Configuration picking Access Point mode, setting 2.4 and 5 GHz made up network SSIDs and passwords, everything easy and perfect.
THEN connecting the ethernet cable to the switch in the bedroom. It immediately found my router several switches away in the office and has been working ever since.
Great and well-designed access point. To put anywhere you have a power plug and an ethernet connection. (Or without an ethernet connection, go for the Wi-Fi extender mode.)
Highly Recommended.
