I tested this USB-C Ethernet adapter with my Proxmox setup on a mini PC, and it successfully negotiated 2.5Gb, 5Gb, and 10Gb link speeds. I specifically like this setup because my mini PC doesn't have an extra PCIe slot available for a network card, so using USB-C is a convenient way to add higher-speed networking.I haven't performed a full throughput benchmark yet, so I'm not going to make any claims about actual transfer speeds. What I can confirm is that Proxmox recognized the adapter and the network link came up at all three speeds I tested. So far, it has been working as expected and provides a straightforward way to add multi-gig networking to a small-form-factor Proxmox system.
I really like this 10 gig USB C Ethernet adapter from BrosTrend.Build quality is excellent, and every part of this adapter from the braided nylon-sheathed cable to the aluminum alloy connector housing makes it feel like a premium quality device.Installation was not quite plug and play because a specific driver needed to be downloaded from the BrosTrend site. Thankfully the site is VERY well organized and it was easy to find, download and install. The adapter then shows up in the Windows 11 Control Panel under "Network adapters" as "Realtek USB 10Gbe Family Controller" and starts to work immediately. Note that if you let Windows Update install a driver for you automatically it will be the incorrect one (Reaktek - Net - [****]). The one that works (at the time of this testing) is dated 2026-01-13 and shows as version 1159.22.20.113.From my testing I found that this network adapter operates at near line rate 10 Gbps. The iperf3 image shows ~8.8 Gbits/sec speed which is fully expected when you take overhead into account with no frame size tweaking whatsoever. My test gear included a Lenovo Legion 7i and a Cisco Catalyst 9200CX mGig switch. This adapter barely gets warm and the aluminum housing passively radiates heat efficiently.Recommended!
Unfortunately, laptops still dont come with 10GbE Ethernet ports as standard, so an adapter like this is great to have around if you regularly move large files or have a faster network.Ive used this BrosTrend adapter with my Dell XPS 13, MacBook Pro, and a Beelink mini PC, and it has worked well across all three. Its a convenient way to add a proper high-speed Ethernet connection without needing a dock or other bulky hardware. One important thing to keep in mind is that USB4 or Thunderbolt 4 is basically a requirement if you want to take advantage of 10GbE speeds. Plugging it into an older or slower USB-C port will limit what the adapter can do, regardless of how fast the network connection is.I also like being able to move the same adapter between my Windows and Mac systems instead of having dedicated networking hardware for each machine. Just be aware that macOS performance is more limited than Windows, so I wouldnt buy this expecting identical speeds on both platforms.Overall, it has been a useful and straightforward solution for adding fast wired networking to laptops and mini PCs that otherwise dont have 10GbE built in.
The internet at my office has been very slow, and I was constantly getting bounced off calls, which was becoming really frustrating. Since I already had an Ethernet cable in my office, I decided to try this adapter with my MacBook. It worked great and solved my problem! Once I connected my MacBook directly to Ethernet using this adapter, my connection was much more stable and I stopped getting kicked off calls. It was also very easy to set upjust plug it in and connect the Ethernet cable. I haven't tested the maximum 10 Gbps speeds, but for my needs, this adapter made a noticeable difference. If you're having connection issues with Wi-Fi and have access to a wired Ethernet connection, this is definitely worth it.
It is a powerful device if you are using the right port. That being said, i am not sure i agree with the high price tag since this gives you half the speed on thunderbolt which is strange. If you use the right port, this is pretty good device to have if you want something that is takes advantage of lan speeds on high usb port plug. It is a big adapter but it provides you a good length cable so you do not have to worry about it sticking ojt the side of your device. Another thing is that this device requires driver installation before you can use it. This can be annoying if this is the only device you can use for internet Another thing to note is that you want the right internet plan/router to make this thing work well as well as the right ethernet able. I have tried this more for a faster internet connection for my mac but it unfortunately did not do it for me as it is thunderbolt only. In my windows laptop, this has helped with streaming, transferring, and such at higher speeds. The cable length allows me to avoid hitting my type c port and accidentally disconnecting. It is big piece but does not take up too much space. The device has no cooling fan but it does not run super hot. It uses passive cooling so try to have it with some air flow. The material and design makes it very well built and the connection speed is stable with decent speed. Overall this device works great and provides really fast speeds provided you have the right port. It works best with usb3.2. It will work for thunderbolt but you only get half the speec. I do find it is expensive for not working well with thunderbolt. The device is a bit challenging to connect to because you need to install drivers which can only be done if you are able to connect to the internet. It does not take up too much space and it does not run hot. It can be an upgrade but you need to make sure you the right port and router that will utilize this right speed.
